Keep reading for our full product review. Spin class has become all the rage in the fitness world and is a must at any gym. But while it can be a great way to burn a ton of calories, sweating in a room with strangers doesn’t appeal to everyone. Fortunately, you can still get a similar workout in the comfort of your own home with the use of a stationary bike. We tried out one of the more popular indoor cycling bikes available: the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B901 Pro Indoor Cycling Bike. Best known for its movable seat and handlebars, we tested how well these adjustments worked as well as its setup, design, and overall performance. Read on to see what we found. Verywell Fit / Cheyenne Elwell Setup Process: Done in 30 minutes (but partner recommended) Setting up this Sunny Health & Fitness bike took about 30 minutes in total and wasn’t too difficult. The bike’s main frame was already put together with the wheel already attached. We simply had to attach the front and back stabilizers (pieces that hold the bike in its fixed position), pedals, handlebars, and the seat. The provided assembly instructions have diagrams along with detailed instructions that helped move the process along fairly quickly. Though the instructions don’t mention it, it’s ideal to have another person help when putting it together. It’s a pretty heavy bike, weighing nearly 100 pounds, and a few steps require the lifting of the main unit during construction. Verywell Fit / Cheyenne Elwell Design: No-frills design The SF-B901 fits very well in our home in terms of space. It is compact in size, measuring 46.5 x 18 x 46 inches. We found that it didn’t take up a lot of room width-wise, which enabled us to pull it pretty far from our wall—ideal for a stationary bike. This bike also comes with two roller wheels on the front. Considering that the bike weighs nearly 100 pounds, the rollers made it realistic and pretty easy to move the bike around the room. Plus, the wheels allow the user to easily move it into and out of storage if need be. Whether just starting out or an avid cycler, this bike is sure to offer a workout that is challenging for all levels. This bike comes in only one color option, which is somewhat of a bummer since it is gray with accents of cherry red. It really didn’t fit in with the decor we had in our fitness room since the cherry red is so bright and prominent. It would have been nice if there was a neutral option. Another inconvenience of the design is its simplicity. It’s definitely a no-frills design, lacking in style as well as any extras such as a water bottle holder or an LCD screen to measure calories burned, time, distance, etc. However, we will say that, among exercise bikes on the market, this one is sturdy and solid and made with quality parts. It definitely doesn’t feel cheap or as if it’s made of poor quality materials. Verywell Fit / Cheyenne Elwell Comfort: Ergonomic handlebars, takes time to adjust to seat The handlebars are one of the nicer features of the Pro Indoor Cycling Bike, as they are padded, slip-free, and ergonomic. They are designed to accommodate different riding styles for different workouts. They also adjust vertically, which we found was helpful, especially since more than one person in our household was using the bike. Being able to move the handlebars meant the bike worked for people of different heights—and it helped ease any tension in our backs as well. The handlebars adjust vertically, which we found was helpful, especially since more than one person in our household was using the bike. As for the seat, it’s very similar to what you’d find on a typical road bike. It’s about the same size as a bike seat and is similar in comfort—firm with some padding. We found that the first few times after using the bike, the seat left us feeling sore. However, eventually, we got used to the seat and had no issues. The seat is also adjustable both vertically and horizontally so the user can adjust the distance to the handlebars (minimum 17.5 inches, maximum 22 inches) and up and down (minimum 28.5 inches, maximum 41 inches). This was again useful having multiple people in the household using this indoor bike. Since the pedals are not clip-in pedals that are used specifically with cycling shoes they can accommodate most fitness shoes—which is great for those who wear corrective workout shoes, or orthotic inserts (like insoles for flat feet). They come with a strap that goes over the shoe to provide stability and safety when riding. We liked that we could tighten or loosen the strap so our shoes fit firmly inside the caged foot pedal. You can always switch the pedals out should you desire. Verywell Fit / Cheyenne Elwell Performance: Smooth but noisy The Sunny Health & Fitness Pro Indoor Bike was perfect for our needs. Over the course of several weeks, we used the bike about two times a week for 30 to 40 minutes to get endurance workouts in. After recently moving into a neighborhood that is neither jogger- nor biker-friendly, this indoor bike was a great option for incorporating a cardio workout into our weekly routine without leaving the house. We loved that it was quick and easy to make adjustments, and it rode smoothly. When first using the bike, we had to adjust both the seat and handlebars to our height and preference. To do so, we loosened the pop pins and then pulled them out as we adjusted the handlebars and seat. Once our desired adjustments were achieved, we let the pop pin go and tightened it firmly to keep the parts in place. One of the downsides of this bike is that it is not quiet. Overall, we found that riding this indoor bike was extremely smooth. We didn’t notice any jerking or wobbling when riding, which helped keep our workouts going without any hiccups. The 40-pound flywheel helps to keep it running smoothly, supports speed and stability, and maintains momentum—an important feature to have for indoor cycling bikes. One of the downsides of this bike is that it is not quiet. Though it does offer a smooth ride overall, it does not offer a quiet workout. There is a low hum that drones on consistently when riding as we found a steady pace. Verywell Fit / Cheyenne Elwell Features: Adjustable resistance and 3-year warranty In order to intensify the workout on the Sunny Health & Fitness bike, there is a tension knob located just below the handlebars. Simply turn the knob to the right or left to increase or decrease the resistance. We found that it was super easy to use, conveniently placed, and provided a great range of resistance. We could ride normally with little to no resistance and crank it up all the way for a harder workout. Whether you’re just starting out or an avid cycler, this bike is sure to offer a workout that is challenging for all levels. Below the tension knob is a stop lever that allows you to stop abruptly. Another nice feature of this indoor bike is the three-year warranty on the structural frame of the bike and a three-month warranty on all other parts and components. For more details on the warranty, visit the manufacturer’s site. Price: Reasonable Retailing around $330, the SF-B901 offers a challenging workout for all levels at a pretty inexpensive price. It can be easily tailored to each rider, helping to make the cycling workout all the more comfortable and justifying the cost. Plus, it’s also sturdy, compact, and easy to move and store, adding to the value. Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B901 Pro Indoor Cycling Bike vs. ProGear 100S Exercise Bike The ProGear 100S Exercise Bike is another inexpensive indoor bike on the market. It retails around $190 and is small in size measuring 40 x 22 x 26 inches—great for small spaces. Similar to the Sunny Health & Fitness Pro Indoor Bike, it has a four-way adjustable seat, a 22-pound flywheel for smooth riding, and roller wheels. The main difference between the two is the ProGear 100S Exercise Bike offers a water bottle holder and an LCD screen to measure calories burned, distance, time, speed, and pulse. Both bikes are great options, but the ProGear 100S Exercise Bike definitely offers extra accessories that some users may appreciate. Final Verdict Buy it if you don’t care about extras. The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B901 Pro Indoor Cycling Bike is a good buy for someone looking to begin cycling or continue cycling without the need for all of the bells and whistles. With its sturdy construction, compact size, easy adjustments, convenient roller wheels, and a three-year warranty, this indoor bike is well worth the purchase.
