I'm a big fan of the Stott Pilates system and their teaching materials. Master Instructor Moira Merrithew is a wonderful teacher who embodies the core of what a Pilates teacher should be. Merrithew is extremely knowledgeable, instructs clearly and precisely, and offers appropriate modifications.

Stott Pilates "The Secret to Flat Abs" DVD Review

If you're somewhat new to Pilates, "The Secret to Flat Abs" is a great place to start. It presents the core exercises that are fundamental to Pilates: exercises that condition the abdominals, back, and torso while improving mobility, flexibility, and agility.

The workout leads off with a great warm-up that will get you ready to endure the next 48 minutes. All in all, the workout contains 37 different exercises that are essential to Pilates: the hundred, the single leg stretch, rolling like a ball, etc. You're sure to break a sweat, whether you're a beginner or not.

As is the case will all Stott Pilates workout DVDs I've had the pleasure of viewing, this one is very well produced. The visuals are great, the audio is clear and the exercises are easy to follow. Moira Merrithew, who founded Stott Pilates with husband Lindsay, is the instructor, and she does a fantastic job. The two student models are each very well trained and demonstrate the exercises clearly. Merrithew presents the exercises so clearly that you could eventually do the routine just by listening to her voice. No more craning your neck in an awkward position to get a glimpse of the TV.

This might be a workout DVD for beginners, but it's anything but basic. Yes, the exercises included are slightly more introductory level, but they're still challenging enough to provide an effective workout for even intermediate or advanced Pilates students.

This DVD includes a bonus workout from the next level. "The Secret to Flat Abs" is the first in a series that also includes "Firm and Fit," "Core Challenge" and "Strong & Streamlined."
