Nature Creation Menstrual Cramps Reliever

Menstrual cramps have been a regular (and painful!) part of my life for as long as I can remember. A special remedy of ibuprofen and a trusty heating pad would get me through the worst days, but even then I was tethered to an outlet. There are a million cure-alls out there promising relief, but when I tested the Nature Creation Menstrual Cramps Reliever, I found that it actually delivered; the aromatherapy element of the heated pack mixed with the ability to move about the house alleviated my pain faster than the traditional method. Read on for my breakdown of all of its key features, from its design to its effectiveness.

Material: All-natural and medicinal

The Nature Creation Menstrual Cramps reliever is made from all-natural materials, which I loved. The exterior fabric is 100 percent cotton, which felt sturdy but was soft and flexible. It wasn’t irritating at all against my bare skin, even though I ended up wearing it mostly over an article of clothing. I ordered the red floral pattern, but it also comes in blue and purple.

Inside the pack is a soothing blend of chamomile, cinnamon, lemongrass, peppermint, rosemary, spearmint, white-willow, yarrow, flaxseed, and wheat. When the pack is in action, this blend of herbs feels almost medicinal; I found that the sensory experience made it much more effective than your regular electric heating pad.

However, because this wrap is all-natural, it requires a bit more care than your average heating or cooling pad. To use it as a hot pad, the manufacturer recommends that you heat it on high in the microwave for 75 seconds. (If it’s still not warm enough, add 15 seconds to that.) Also, if your microwave doesn’t have a turntable, make sure to turn it over halfway through to make sure the heat distributes evenly. To reuse after application, reheat it for 45 seconds.

If you’d like to use it for moist heat, mist it lightly with water—any more than that and the water saturates the herbs and grains. I’d suggest microwaving it for slightly less time than the dry heat recommendations, as it gets very hot.

Lastly, If you want to use it as a cold pad, place it inside a sealable plastic bag and pop it in your freezer for one or two hours.

Design: Thoughtful but a bit difficult to clean

The physical design of the product is efficient and well thought out. This pad is built to be wrapped around any part of your body, like your torso or your neck, and held in place with a velcro strap. I thought that this strap was easy to adjust and stayed in place well. My only complaint is that the exterior fabric isn’t removable, so it’s not machine-washable. You can still clean the pack by wiping it down with a damp cloth, but be very careful not to let the interior get wet.

Performance: Healing and relaxing

The Nature Creation Menstrual Cramps Reliever can be used cold, hot, or misted and microwaved for a moist heat. It holds heat for about 40-45 minutes, but that’s really all you need.

Wearing the heated pack on my abdomen yielded the best results.

I tested the pack in a few ways: on my lower back, my abdomen, my shoulders, and my head. Though this product is specifically designed for menstrual cramps, I wanted to try it on a part of my body that wasn’t my back or stomach. Since the instructions suggested that I keep the wrap in the freezer while not in use, I first used it when I had a headache. While the wrap does not have a compact design fit for a forehead, I wrapped the strap around my head to secure it. The pack did soothe my pain, but didn’t have the freezer bite of plastic cold packs. I found that using it cold was great, even though the herbs weren’t as fragrant.

When the heated pack was on my sore shoulders, it worked beautifully. The relaxing scent mixed with the weighted pack alleviated any tension I was carrying. When using the wrap on my back and abdomen, the fit was extremely comfortable. It laid flush on my body without needing to adjust the strap as I moved around.

I am very sensitive to smell and get headaches from overwhelming scents, but the fragrance of the wrap didn’t bother me at all.

Wearing the heated pack on my abdomen yielded the best results. The pain actually melted away in about 10 minutes and I was able to get some work done with it attached. I can’t speak highly enough about the aromatherapy aspect of the Nature Creation pack. The scent is potent but relaxing. Price: A good investment

Listed at $59.99, the price tag on this product is a little steeper than your average heating pad, but with all it’s relaxing properties, it’s worth it. I really like that it’s specifically designed for women with menstrual cramps and that it is an all-natural product.

Nature Creation Menstrual Cramps Reliever vs. Sunbeam Moist and Dry Heat Heating Pad

Normal heating pads cannot do what the Nature Creation wrap can do for menstrual cramps. The weight of the pack and the aromatherapy really created a different kind of pain relief that felt holistic and relaxing. However, for those who prefer a wet heat, the Nature Creation wrap can accommodate, but the Sunbeam Moist and Dry Heating Pad (view on Amazon) takes the cake. With the removal sponge and extra-large surface area, the Sunbeam heating pad makes moist heat easy—plus, it approximately half the price, and you don’t have to worry about over-saturating any herbs inside.
