Emmy Ludwig, MD, is a former medical reviewer for Verywell Health who practices general gastroenterology and specializes in issues unique to the cancer patient. She treats a broad variety of patients with and without cancer, and performs a wide range of endoscopic procedures, including upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, placement of feeding gastrostomies and jejunostomies, and stenting of advanced tumors. Her research projects focus on the palliation of gastroenterological diseases of the terminal cancer patient, the epidemiology of familial pancreatic cancer, and hepatitis B reactivation in the setting of cancer chemotherapy.
She is the co-director of the gastroenterology fellowship program at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and director of education in its division of gastroenterology, and a constant supervisor of fellows, residents, and medical students. She has lectured extensively on the topic of Hepatitis B reactivation in cancer patients.
A native of New York, Dr. Ludwig graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York in 2000 where she was elected to the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. She remained at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center where she completed her internship and residency in internal medicine in 2003. Following residency, she completed a fellowship in gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, also in New York.
