If you're a runner and have found that sometimes you feel less than eager to lace on your running shoes and hit the track, never fear: Everyone, even the highest level athletes, hit performance plateaus or simply lose some enthusiasm for putting one foot in front of the other.

One way to dig out of a discouragement slump is to find inspiration in the words of others. The Bible is full of verses that some people find motivating. But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."

They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize."

2 Chronicles 15:7

"But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

Philippians 3:13

"I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize."

Make straight paths for your feet, that what is lame may not be dislocated but healed."

Psalms 119:32

"I run in the path of your commands, for you have set my heart free."
