Best Massage Tables

Verywell Fit / Jessica Juliao

Massage is a vital part of a good workout routine, Jeffrey Dreon, a licensed massage therapist, says. Moving the fascia—the layer of connective tissue underneath the skin—is beneficial for relieving trigger points, loosening tight muscles, and milking out lactic acid to help with soreness, he says.

Reviewed & Approved

Our top overall pick, Master Massage’s Santana Portable Massage Table Package is comfortable, stable, and easily adjustable. Our licensed massage therapists also recommend Earthlite’s Portable Massage Table Luna for its ideal size and weight.

Licensed massage therapist Dawn Lovell adds that the benefits of massage therapy don’t end there: “It can improve your overall mood, stimulates circulation and recovery after injuries or workouts, helps with digestive issues, and even aids those suffering from PTSD or other mental health issues.”

Having a good massage table is a key component of the overall experience. Whether you're buying a massage table for your home or for a massage therapy business, a good massage table should be easy to use, adjustable, and (of course) comfortable.

We tested 13 top-rated massage tables in The Verywell Testing Lab to find the best ones. Our 13 testers were accompanied by three licensed massage therapists, who administered the massages and provided their expert insights. Each tester evaluated their assigned table for ease of setup, adjustability, comfort, and overall value, scoring the product on a scale from 1 (would not recommend) to 5 (highly recommend) in each key category.

Master Massage’s Santana table is our top overall pick because our tester loved its seamless setup, soft comfort, great adjustability, and overall value, scoring it a perfect 5 out of 5 in all four categories. Both tester and therapist agreed that it is the ideal massage table since setup only took three minutes—plus, it’s wide, which both agreed is good to accommodate all sizes.

They also loved the table's heating element, noting that it was a great added feature, along with the cushioned padding and headrest. We liked that the table had reliable sturdiness and predictable durability. “I like everything about this massage table,” licensed massage therapist Betty Hastie says.

Testing Notes: “This is the perfect table and quite possibly the best wellness investment you can make.”

While our tester noted that it was too heavy for portable use, it is the best stationary table we tested, with incredible attributes and great features.

All three on-site massage therapists agreed that Earthlite tables are best-in-class, noting that the Luna table is their favorite. “It’s easily adjustable, super lightweight and sturdy, the perfect size for all bodies, and comfortable for both client and therapist,” Dreon says.

Our tester agreed, giving the table a perfect 5 out of 5 score in three key categories. With a 2.5-minute setup, easy adjustability, and light carry, it’s great for portable use. Plus, our tester said that the table was nice and cushioned, with a soft, firm feel and easy-to-clean leather-like material that doesn’t stick to the skin.

Testing Notes: “The massage table was comfortable enough to sleep on, easy to set up and transport, and stable.”

The overall value of the product was an easy 5 out of 5—at an average price compared to the rest of our list, it’s truly an above-average massage table.

Cons
  • Long setup process

Earning a perfect 5 out of 5 score for overall value, the Yaheetech massage table's price is in line with its quality, according to our tester. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly table that is ideal for beginner or short-term use, this one’s for you.

The setup was lengthy but relatively intuitive, according to our tester, who had difficulty installing the armrest. But the table is comfortable, she said—noting that it provided great support during her short, 15-minute massage.

Testing Notes: “If you're not looking to spend a fortune on a decent table that works, this is a good pick.”

We recommend this table to beginners looking for a starter table that can eventually be upgraded to something more comfortable, versatile, and durable. However, note that it has a lower weight capacity than other tables on our list, at 220 pounds.

Cons

When purchasing a massage table, it’s important to make sure that it’s the proper size for clients of all shapes and sizes, Lovell says. The Earthlite Avalon table is 30 inches wide, 73 inches long, up to 33 inches tall, and can support up to 750 pounds in working weight—making it comfortable for everyone.

Our tester found the setup a breeze, adding that the cushioned headrest and sturdy legs were easy to adjust. The table is the perfect combination of soft and supportive—she added that she was comfortable without feeling squished, even as the therapist applied strong pressure to her tight muscles.

Testing Notes: “I'm not a very tall or wide person, but I can tell that this has enough room for any size of body.”

The table doesn’t have any added features, like heating or vibration. But it is a high-quality, versatile table from a brand that experts love, earning it a 4 out of 5 for overall value.

Pros

  • Budget-friendly

Cons
  • Lower working weight capacity than others

  • Safety bar makes setup longer

Our tester found Sierra Comfort’s massage table to be incredibly sturdy, thanks to its unique safety bars. Our on-site therapists said that this was a feature they hadn’t seen before but was very handy in avoiding any unwanted wobbling.

The safety bars are a great addition to the table, but they did add time to the setup. While easy to assemble, you do have to uninstall and reinstall the bars when changing the height of the table, which also added a few extra minutes (and earned the table a 4.5 out of 5 for adjustability).

Testing Notes: “The table came with a safety bar, which was easy to assemble and install. The masseuses said they had never seen a safety bar before. It’s a valuable feature for stability.”

We liked that, for its reasonable price, the table is well-padded and comfortable. Even when deep pressure was applied, our tester felt relaxed and supported. Overall, our massage therapist and tester both enjoyed this table for a secure, restorative experience.

If you’re looking for immersive, total-body relaxation, we recommend this Therapy Table from Earthlite. With both heating and vibration features, the table warms your muscles as your therapist works them. Our tester loved this one for its unique, soothing capabilities.

Despite its added components, the table was easy to set up, only taking our tester under four minutes and earning a 5 out of 5 for that category. It is comfortable too—cushioned and soft, yet firm and supportive, according to our tester.

Testing Notes: “This is a super soft and secure table that works for many different body types. Plus, the vibration and the heat make this product unique and versatile.”

This is another Earthlite table that all three of our massage therapists love. However, the vibration and heat features add weight to the table, so it's best for stationary use, Dreon says.

Luxton Home’s massage table is a great option for anyone in search of a high-quality, at-home massage table at a relatively fair price. Our tester loved this one for its plush and luxurious feel, scoring it a 5 out of 5 for comfort.

Testing Notes: “I would recommend it to someone who wants to start experimenting with home massages and needs an affordable option that's still very comfortable.”

The table features easily adjustable legs, front and side armrests, and a side storage pocket for oil or other personal belongings. Our tester liked that it was quick and easy to assemble. But upon disassembly, our massage therapist noted that the clasps of the table did not align properly for optimal portability—making it best for stationary, at-home use.

Pros

Cons

  • Headrest is not included

This Earthlite electric massage table received a 5 out of 5 score for comfort, adjustability, and overall value. It’s plush and cushioned, easily adjustable using a hydraulic lift, and well worth its expensive price tag, according to our tester.

The table is designed for home, spa, or salon use. It’s also versatile because you can manually tilt the table to an incline, unlike the other flat-top tables on our list. Both therapist and tester loved that it arrived pre-assembled and came with wheels for easy maneuvering.

Testing Notes: “All I have to say is: AMAZING! In any given service, it's best to have a product that will ensure success, and this table is it."

Although a headrest and other accessories are sold separately, our tester felt comfortable even without one.

SmileMart’s massage table had an easy setup (other than the headrest), provided comfortable yet firm support, and was seamlessly adjustable when turned over. We like that it comes with front- and side-removable armrests that can be stored inside the table.

Testing Notes: “For a reasonable price, this table is a great option. Comfortable, lightweight, and easy to set up.”

Our tester awarded the table a 5 out of 5 score for comfort and overall value, noting that it’s a great option for on-the-go users because it’s lightweight and easy to carry. The headrest was tricky to set up but very ergonomic once inserted, according to our tester.

  • Quick and easy setup

Cons
  • Headrest not as sturdy as other options

  • Difficult to adjust

With a quick and easy setup, in-table storage, and a handy carry case, this Earthlite massage table is great for portable use. When you’re traveling from place to place, you want something that can be set up and stowed away quickly. If this process is difficult and lengthy, it takes away from the relaxing experience, Dreon says.

Testing Notes: “The table is long and wide enough to fit many body types and it is very easy to set up!”

Our tester liked that the table is wide and well-padded, scoring it a 4 out of 5 for comfort. However, you have to remove the legs to adjust the height, which can be a hassle, Dreon adds. Also, the headrest fell off during our test, so it may not be as sturdy as others on our list.

How We Rated the Best Massage Tables

4.8 to 5 stars: These are the best massage tables we tested. We recommend them without reservation.
4.5 to 4.7 stars: These massage tables are excellent—they might have minor flaws, but we still recommend them.
4.0 to 4.5 stars: We think these are great massage tables, but others are better.
3.5 to 3.9 stars: These massage tables are just average.
3.4 and below: We don't recommend massage tables with this rating; you won't find any on our list.

We Also Tested

AmazonCommercial’s Portable Folding Massage Table at Amazon was budget-friendly, easily adjustable, and had a great height range. But both tester and therapist agreed that the table was difficult to set up, stiff, and overall low quality.

Saloniture’s Portable Massage Table was another budget-friendly option, but our tester thought it wasn’t strong or durable enough to withstand hard pressure. However, for the low price point, the tester liked that it was intuitive to set up and comfortable throughout his massage.

Although our tester liked its ease of setup and height adjustability, Uenjoy’s Folding Massage Table was narrow and unstable, making it unsuitable for many body types. The headrest came loose twice during the massage, which added to our tester's lack of comfort and confidence in the table.

How We Tested the Best Massage Tables

To curate our list of the best massage tables on the market, our expert testers tested 13 highly rated massage tables in The Verywell Testing Lab. On site were three licensed massage therapists, Jeffrey Dreon, Dawn Lovell, and Betty Hastie, who administered 15-minute massages and provided additional expert insights.

Each tester unboxed and assembled their assigned table. A massage therapist then set up the table, and testers got onto the table to receive their massages. Throughout the experience, testers rated each table for its ease of setup, adjustability, comfort, and overall value. They were asked to describe in detail how they felt during and after the massage.

Ease of Setup

The first key category we tested for was ease of setup. It’s essential that your massage table is easily accessible, whether for personal or business use. A massage is meant to relax and restore, and you don’t want a complicated setup and disassembly to interrupt that.

Our testers were asked to time the entire setup process, noting if the table required extra assembly, if the legs easily slotted into place, and if the massage table was ready to be used immediately. Then the massage therapist finished preparing the table for the massage by cleaning it, laying down a sheet, and adjusting the height to their preference. Tables that had a seamless setup received a high score in this area.

EARTHLITE Portable Massage Table LUNA

Verywell Fit / Leticia Almeida

Adjustability

Adjustability is vital when it comes to massage tables. Massage therapists and their clients exist at all heights, shapes, and sizes, Lovell says. To be able to administer a therapeutic massage, therapists need good leverage, and that all comes from the height of the table, she adds.

We asked our testers and therapists to evaluate the adjustability of each table, paying special attention to simplicity and range. Was it easy to adjust the height of the table? Did it have a good height range? These questions helped our experts rate for this attribute, awarding high scores to tables that were intuitive and highly adjustable.

Comfort

What good is a restorative massage if you’re not comfortable during it? After setup, our testers got onto the table and received their 15-minute massage from one of our three on-site massage therapists.

During the massage, testers noted several things: How they felt on the table, the type of support it provided, if they had enough room, and if it was suitable for their body type. Testers were also asked how they felt after the massage. Overall, highly comfortable tables received great scores for this key attribute.

Earthlite Sports Therapy Table with Vibration and Heat

Verywell Fit / Leticia Almeida

Overall Value

Overall value refers to if, in terms of cost, a product is worth it. After rating the above attributes and getting perspective from our therapist, we asked testers if they thought the table was a good value. Massage tables got high scores if testers believed they performed well in the above attributes and were worth their price tag (or even more budget-friendly than we expected).

What to Look for in a Massage Table

Setup

Both setup and clean up are really important, especially during home or office visits, Dreon says. Make sure you choose a table that can be easily assembled and has all of the necessary equipment (like the headrest, wipes, and sheets) on hand and ready to go. It’s a plus if the table has storage compartments, like Earthlite’s Portable Massage Table Luna.

If you’re fumbling during setup or taking too long to clean up and leave, it can disrupt the energy and serenity of the whole massage experience, Dreon adds.

Adjustability

A highly adjustable massage table is essential for both therapist and client, Lovell says. You want to make sure that it’s easy enough for the client to get on and off of the table, regardless of their height. The table should also be adjustable to accommodate the height of the therapist so that they can get enough leverage to administer a restorative massage.

Type

Before buying a massage table, it’s essential to establish how you’ll be using it. “Most tables are used for personal massage, esthetic, sports, or chiropractic and osteoarthritis usage,” says Beret Loncar, licensed massage therapist and owner of Body Mechanics Orthopedic Massage in New York City.

She explains that some of the most popular types are hydraulic tables (which go up and down in height), pregnancy tables (modified with holes for the belly and breasts), inclining tables for esthetics or pregnancy usage, and stationary tables with storage. Additionally, there are heavy folding tables that can be easily stored but are hard to move, and travel tables that are lightweight.

EARTHLITE Portable Massage Table Package AVALON

Verywell Fit / Leticia Almeida

Lumbar Support

Typically, people seeking out a massage have lumbar strain in the lower part of their spinal cord—meaning a table’s lumbar support is essential. Loncar says it’s especially important for patients experiencing back pain and that supporting the lower back can be helpful for people who find it hard to lay flat.

Materials

“Generally, tables are made with aluminum, wood, high-density foam, and vinyl,” explains Loncar. However, she notes that with a variety of tables on the market, you can find ones made with a combination of different materials and that many massage tables are customizable. While the frame of the table needs to be sturdy, the top needs to be as comfortable as possible so that people won’t experience more strain when getting a massage.

Loncar notes that the type of vinyl and the foam are where quality really comes into play. “Cheaper tables will have lower quality vinyl and less padding, but for occasional usage, that may be fine,” she says. “For daily usage, you probably want to invest in something that will wear a little better—keeping from compression and cracking.”

Earthlite Sports Therapy Table with Vibration and Heat

Verywell Fit / Leticia Almeida

Adjustments

If you can adjust the height of the table, people can easily get on and off. Massage tables come with a height range that the masseuse can manually adjust, depending upon the client and their own preference for working at the right angle.

Some higher-end models are electric, which allows for even greater ease with making adjustments, and most tables have a face cradle that can be positioned at different angles for maximum comfort. Lastly, having a bed that folds will allow different styles of treatment and angles for both the customer and the masseuse.

Size

Most massage tables range in size from around 24 inches to about 34 inches in height. Length-wise, you’ll find that most massage tables start around 72 inches, however, some can extend to over 80 inches, which is great for taller clients.

The size of the table is important for storage, portability, and use. If you’re planning on bringing it along for your practice, one that can be folded may be a good choice. If you’re dealing with a wide range of clients with a variety of needs, a longer one with ample room for adjustment will ensure you can accommodate everyone.

Portability

While stationary tables are often more durable and stable, portable tables can still offer a great experience with added benefits. Determine whether your table will remain in one place for a long period of time or if you'll need to move it frequently. If portability is a factor, a foldable table may be a good choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What size sheets are required for a massage table?

It’s generally recommended to purchase massage sheet sets for the table. While you can make twin-size sheets work (the same ones made for a bed), investing in a massage table sheet set will provide a snug fit that is meant for all parts of the table. Massage sheet sets typically include a face cradle cover, a flat sheet, and a fitted sheet. Just be sure to check your table's measurements before purchasing.

  • How do you build your own massage table (DIY)?

There are two paths you can take with building your own massage table. Some people start from scratch—creating a full table with face attachment—while others opt to build smaller attachments just for the fact that you can connect to an existing bed. For either one, you’ll need wood for the base and vinyl for the upholstery.

  • How high should the massage table be?

Many tables feature an adjustable height which allows for easy access on and off the bed. During a massage session, the height depends on the preference of the masseuse and the needs of the client. "Hydraulic tables not only help adjust the client into a position that gets better static pressure on muscles, but they're also great for the body mechanics of the therapist," says Karah Faison, licensed massage therapist and Silver Lining Day Spa owner.

  • What can I use to clean my massage table?

While sheets are changed and cleaned between clients, it is wise to clean the actual massage table regularly as well. There's a variety of cleaning products on the market, but you'll want to look at the composition of your table before purchasing one. Most tables include care instructions, so be sure they don't reference any products that could damage the vinyl or the fabric cover.

  • What is a deep tissue massage?

A Swedish massage is focused primarily on relaxation, but a deep tissue massage includes firmer strokes and pressure to provide therapeutic benefits and relief to the muscles. "Deep tissue massages help target problem areas of congestion in the muscles," says Faison. She explains that the difference in pressure breaks up muscle constriction, moves lymphatic drainage, and helps support blood flow.

  • What size massage table is best?

Standard massage tables are typically 30 inches wide and 73 inches long. But you can find massage tables on the market that span from 28 to 32 inches wide, and 63 up to 84 inches in length. The massage table length and width that you should choose depends on a variety of factors. If you're an individual looking for a massage table for personal use, you can find one that fits your height and width needs. But if you're a massage therapist who will be using the massage table for a variety of clients, we recommend opting for the standard size that'll fit a variety of body types. Portability is always a factor to keep in mind as well, so think about whether you'll be transporting the massage table to multiple places, or if you'll use it as a stationary table.

  • How much does a new massage table cost?

A quality massage table may cost anywhere between $110-$2,100. While cheaper options do exist, they likely won’t be as stable or comfortable, and they may not last very long. More expensive options exist too, but if you aren’t looking for fancy features or a specific brand name, you don’t have to go over budget. The cheapest massage table on our list is $110, while our top pick, Master Massage’s Santana Portable Massage Table Package, was $669 when we published this list.
