Smoothies can be tricky when you're trying to eat healthy. If you're not careful, you can end up adding more than a meal's worth of food into the blender without even realizing it. Even worse, smoothies from big chain smoothie shops are usually made with high sugar juices and bases, making them more like a dessert than a healthy breakfast. Keep it simple and delicious with a banana chai oatmeal smoothie.

This delicious smoothie contains only a few simple ingredients, but it still tastes great. Banana and oatmeal provide fiber and bulk for staying power, while Greek yogurt gives it a creamy protein boost, no protein powder needed. Add in a few spices for flavor, and you've got an easy, healthy smoothie without a laundry list of ingredients.

  • 1 small ripe banana
  • 1/2 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup milk of choice
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch ground cloves
  • Pinch ground nutmeg
  • Pinch ground cardamom

  1. Place all ingredients in a high-powered blender. Blend until smooth.

  2. Pour smoothie into a glass and enjoy.

Ingredient Variations and Substitutions

For lower sugar, use plain nonfat Greek yogurt.

Use either rolled oats or quick oats. Steel cut oats will not blend well.

Omit the ice cubes if you're using a frozen banana.

Cooking and Serving Tips

A high-powered blender works best to get the smoothest consistency.

Garnish with cinnamon or your favorite spice.
